Its Already Here
In some form...accessing netflix is already possible in Australia, if slighltly illegal, the number of youtube tutorials and online guides is a testament to its increasing popularity as an alternative to torrenting.
You’re right Eryk, people in Australia have already begun streaming their favourite television content regardless of whether legal streaming services are available or not. Game of Thrones is one of the hottest television series to come out this year and Australians have accounted for the highest amount of illegal downloads. We should examine how prevalent piracy is in Australia and how is it currently affecting the industry. Could the prevalence of piracy be due to a lack of legal alternatives? We have Quickflix over here so why hasn’t it taken off in Australia in the same way Netflix has in the United States?
The increasing popularity of streaming technology could be an exciting opportunity for the Australian television industry or a horrible nightmare. A dramatic change to the industry is starting, and it’s very likely more is just around the corner.
The prevalance of online streaming is crazy! Ordinary, law abiding citizens either don't know or don't care that this is illegal. So why aren't they being stopped? Can the police actually do anything to enforce online copyright?

DeleteAnother thing to consider is ABC's iview. This is one way legal online streaming is already in Australia.
